We've been following, and wearing, the work of David Rau and Josh Bertrand, two artists in Tampa, Florida, for many years, and have been intrigued by these guys who seem to make art, trouble, and great wallets, look effortless. We recently heard that Dave has dove in head-first to  make their company, Resist Today, succeed, and "to have full days to devote to making fine art, better products, independent web sites and collaborative projects with friends".

Kylie Harper is not a bull-horns, marches, and rallies kind of activist. Not that she has any qualms about organizing her team to hit the streets to take down major corporations, she just does it with a soft voice - and aims for a soft underbelly. When we met up in the cafe of the Housing Works Used Bookstore in Soho, her first words were a softly amazed "I've got to sign this place up."

Founded in 1973, New York City’s Transportation Alternatives has been a steady voice of advocacy for a bicycling, walking, and public transit to reclaim the streets from the automobile. In recent years, the group has become a venerable force, working with legislators and offering assistance to journalists to make their mission heard and their goals realized.

Last month, we applauded the work of Carrotmob, an organization that taps into community buying power to encourage local businesses to ‘green up’. This week, The Economist points us to a parent company, yes, ‘company’, that uses online social networking to promote Carrotmob’s events and enable groups in distant cities to mobilize their own.

Consume®econnection Project was a year-long effort to meet the laborers and craftsmen who made anything and everything I bought, with a focus on traceability, buying local, and conscious consumption. Meeting these local shopkeepers and neighborhood business owners inspired the creation of Sheepless.org.The Interesting:New York conference was held at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Sept 10, 2008.
