After spending the week ogling the reviews and pictures from New York Fashion Week's events and runways, I'm left mesmerized by how many of these creations have so much value in their artistry and craftsmanship, but the possibility of me obtaining something of this caliber is unlikely in this lifetime, if for no other reason than cost. But, a more useful - and still stylish - dress is available, yet not for sale, at least in the traditional sense, from OurGoods, which is an experimental endeavor in artists' networking and bartering.

A great synergy seemed to be taking place on The GreenShows' opening night held at 311 E. 11—the first LEED-Gold certified building in the East Village. Gary Harvey presented “fashion with a conscience,”  a collection of dresses inspired by vintage couture made entirely from recycled garments.

Brooklyn Mammal has had a good several months since we initially profiled them back in October 2009. Since then, Adam Lesser and Michael Miritello, the two behind this Red Hook-based sustainable wood shop, have sorted out several aspects of their business and its ongoing plan, but that doesn't mean that they still don't face hiccups in the realization of their new enterprise.

While now might be a bad time for real estate agents, Brooklyn-based Realty Collective seems to be doing just fine, thank you. In fact, they're doing so well that they just bought another agency. Run by, and marketed towards, young creative individuals, their secret seems to be a first-hand understanding of their clients needs.

There’s not much that will get me out of bed before 7 AM other than food, or more specifically, a market. Growing up in San Francisco, from the age of 10 onwards, I would religiously get up in the wee Saturday hours to drive down with my mom and neighbor to snag a prime parking spot and the best stuff that the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market had to offer. Besides that, and maybe some early morning plane flights, I wouldn’t be caught dead waking up before the break of day, especially on the weekends.

I first encountered Counter, the East Village organic vegetarian bar and bistro, while tracing back my food habits and options during my year of consuming conciously.  One of my favorite vendors at the Union Square Greenmarket, serving up the wraps and turnovers I'd been lunching on for months (and exclusively once the project started) pointed me towards the kitchen in which his goods were prepared—and I dropped in to follow the chain back.

To a certain subsect of its residence, Taliah Lempert's bicycle paintings and prints are as close to a symbol of Brooklyn as there is. Bold, handcrafted, and diverse, with a slightly imperfect charm, her bicycle portraits are as unique as their riders and ubiquitous as their subjects careening along bike paths and through intersections across the borough.
